I am directed by the Earl of Derby
to acquaint you that, subject to your ability to
pass a medical examination as to your fitness
to serve in a tropical climate, he proposes to
appoint you as Inspector of Live Stock and Inspection of Markets at Hong Kong on the conditions stated in the
paragraph 3 headed Qualifications Accompanying,
[This paragraph to be omitted in case of appointments of more than £500 per annum. (In West Africa £600.)]
Should you accept this appointment, you will
be provided with a free passage to the Colony
on your signing the usual agreement with the Crown Agents, Downing Street, by which you
will be bound to repay to the Colonial Government the cost of your passage in the event of your relinquishing your appointment within three years of the date of your arrival in the Colony, for any other reason than mental or
physical infirmity.
